There's a large part of my personality that is still 13 and rebels against any discipline including self-discipline. Then there's another large part of my personality that would like to accomplish things which can't be done by just going with the flow and doing what my base self "wants" to do all the time.
Self-made self improvement guru Steve Pavlina wrote an interesting series of articles about self-discipline that were linked to recently by 43 Folders or Lifehacker or some other blog whose posts I spend more time reading than following. Pavlina broke self-discipline down into five component practices and gave them a handy mnemonic acronym:
A WHIP
( more details so I can (maybe) remember this stuff, and (maybe) use some of it (maybe) )
