papersky and pnh at least (neither of whom would I likely have been aware of had it not been for rec.arts.sf.*)) is pointing to an article by Russ Allbery that reminds me how much Usenet was more than just a bad habit for me back when. I was always more lurker than active participant, but lurkers could feel part of the community of Usenet too.
