B and I both separately sat down today with pieces of paper and wrote down all the tasks and projects flapping around our brains like crows chasing raptors away from their nests. (I'm not sure what that simile is supposed to mean. I just like the image. I guess our sense of focus would be the distracted raptor and the nests of the crows would be the completion of the tasks they represent? Anyway.) It made me happy that we both were able to get all that stuff pinned (penned?) to paper where it's a little less flappy, but it made me even happier that a significant portion of the items were on both lists and the things that weren't were either individual obligations, or simple oversights, not big scary surprises.

boring test )

Faced a lame review at work (needs improvement in most areas, 0% raise, followed by "please don't quit, we need you". Current CEO cannot leave fast enough for anyone I've talked to, but we've got a whole nother year of him to go.) My reaction was actually fairly typical (for me), partially urge to work harder and show them how wrong they are, partially urge to give only as little effort as they seem to think I'm already giving. I am so stuck at the surly teenager level of development. So I took a conversation with one of the admin assistants about decorations for the holiday potluck and ran with it, constructing a paper snowflake making station in a conspicuous spot so that I and my coworkers could spend a few minutes indulging our inner third graders. It has been well-received. (except by my boss whose only comment was "someone was bored")

It's frakking cold. (for here. folks in more frigid climes may enjoy themselves at our expense.) There's a little snow out there, but not enough to cause any problems. It's going to be icy in the morning, though. We blew off a concert this evening from not wanting to spend several hours on the bus in this weather.

My parents called tonight and told me they're giving me a Nikon D90 body for Christmas. Okay! Now I get to obsess over what lens(es) to get to make it a camera. Something I will start doing tomorrow because I need to go to bed. I will not load dpreview.com until tomorrow, I say. Will. Not.
