Not any more that is. Let's see what the test thinks my brain is doing this week...

tap... tap... tap... )

Nearly two weeks of vacation surely has a lot to do with that. But also spending some time during that vacation trying to get a system in place to organize home life projects and tasks. It's still in its early days, so it's still shiny and fun to play with, so we'll see how it holds up as time goes on.

Didn't do much else. Lazed around the house, took some walks, took a few pictures, messed around on facebook, saw some friends. Pretty ideal week ;-)

We've been watching Criminal Minds season 1 for the first time (don't go spoiling me, now, please).

It's good, but it feels pretty rough. There's character inconsistencies and enormous plot holes and strange narrative devices that make no sense in the world. Plus there's this sense that they're shooting for brain-changing impact with the wrap-ups to some of the episodes where they just don't seem to really warrant that kind of weight.

B is more bothered by all of this than I am since I'm mostly watching the show as Shadow Unit methadone. But there have been a few things that just made me go "oh, come on!" The most egregious was the scene in episode 1.17 where much fuss is made about Reid's inability to manage chopsticks. And yet in 1.09 they have Reid demonstrate and use his ability with sleight of hand. I can't squeeze these two things into the character we're seeing. He's a geek. He went to enough college to get three degrees. He must have eaten bushels of Chinese food (he shows no aversion to the food, just the chopsticks), and he never rose to the challenge of chopsticks? Ridiculous.

Another case was when they have Elle explain to the team what "roofies" are. Um, this is the cream of the FBI. I'm pretty sure they've heard of them. I understand they don't want the audience to be confused, but jeez, find someone clueless for Elle to explain things to if you want to get all pedantic on us.

These and many of the other issues kind of boil down to the writers being more plot focused than character focused. Do they get better in season 2?
