Drumming
Ten years ago (or so) I took hand drumming lessons (afro-cuban conga, mostly) with a group of folks here in Issaquah. Then at some point I quit going. Can't remember why.
This spring a friend expressed interest in taking a class so I looked up my old teacher and decided to take the class too and then B jumped on board so we did Simone LaDrumma's "raw beginners" class. We survived that and now B and I are taking her "medium rare" class.
We're going to perform a piece (with Simone and some of her buddies) at a benefit for the Seattle World Percussion Society's World Rhythm Festival on Friday night. Here's info on the event called Rhythm Jam. Other stuff on the program: Drum Circles facilitated by Geoff Johns and other local rhythm makers, Carol Clark - Afro-Brazilian dance workshop, Geoff Johns & BaKongo! Malinke and Brazilian drumming and dance, Marimba music from Zimbabwe with Nyamuziwa, Shona Mbira music with Sahlee Mbira Ensemble.
Sounds like a whole lot of cool music for $5.
